The Winner of Runway ML AI Film Festival 2024

Runway ML, one of the world’s leading text-to-video AI services, has been running film festivals these past few years. I’ve been fascinated by how AI will affect the future of film. The winner this year was “Get Me Out” by Daniel Antebi. The interesting thing about this piece was the way that it weaved in AI in a way that didn’t seem like a gimmick. It was part of the plot.

The main character reveals by the end of the short that he’s struggling with mental health issues, and the short uses AI to play around with the main character’s sense of reality. I think that the more AI is used in a way that it’s weaved into the storytelling itself, the better it will be.
